Creative Critical Reflection Blog

CCR Blog 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?   Our product is our music video. This music both challenges and uses conventions. Let's start off with how our music video challenges conventions. In most music videos,  a convention is that the people making them usually have high budgets and lots of money to spare. These high production budgets those people have and the high amount of money they have is how they are able to spend lots of money on their music videos. They can spend it on things like experienced crew members such as directors, editors, makeup crew, and costume crew. They also have the money to spend on expensive props, high quality camera equipment , a set, and  expensive lighting equipment . With this normal convention, our music video challenges this. In the making of our music video, we didn't have the normal high tech equipment. We used our phones to film every single thing shown in the video

My Music Video

Thank you for being along this journey with me !

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing good! Welcome back to my blog. Today, I want to talk about my music video. More specifically the editing aspect. In a past blog, I told you about how i was trying to edit. But, I didn't get to edit because of how hard it was to transfer clips from the camera. This time, I want to tell you about the true editing process of myself editing the music video. I edited the music video on an app called "CapCut". This app I would say is best for editing because it offers so many things. For example, you can change the brightness and aesthetics of the video. Not only, can you put all the clips together this app allows you to add transitions in between. I used a lot of fade transitions. These were fade in, fade out transitions. I edited the entire music video on my iPhone. More specifically, I have an iPhone 11. I also used external sources outside of CapCut to edit. I also went in the photo's app on my phone. On the photos app, I adjuste

Hello, hello, hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today, I wanted to tell you about the process that happened after we filmed. Now, it was time to transfer all the clips. We had to transfer them from multiple locations.  First, from the camera to my group mate Mya's laptop. We recorded all of our establishing shots on a camera. These are shots giving the viewer a context of the scene. These were shots of the park where we filmed. We specifically recorded the shots on a camcorder style camera. It was a tough process though. My group mate Mya had the camera. So, she had to transfer the SD card to her computer. After she did that, she had to send them to me. It was also a tough process for me specifically. The process was tough because I wanted to edit on my computer. So, I had to transfer all the clips from my phone to my computer. It took a while for me to learn how to do it. I had to watch multiple videos about transferring our music video clips because we had so many and I w

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! Guess what? WE FINALLY FILMED!! We decided to film on a Sunday. We filmed on a Sunday because I couldn't make it to film on a Saturday. Also my group mate Mya, had to take a test. The test is called the ACT. I had to go to a friend's party. Overall, filming took us about an hour. We filmed at a park that is close to both Mya and I's house. The park was also pretty close to our actress' house. We used our friend, Sarah to play the female partner in the video. We picked Sarah because she was easily accessible to work with us. We also picked Sarah because the 3 of us have great chemistry with one another. We first started off by getting many establishing shots of the park. We filmed lots of takes over and over again. This was because one of us would always laugh or break character. We walked around the park which is very nice and looked for nice areas to film. We picked the boat dock to be our main area because of how beautiful

Hey everyone welcome back to my blog! Today I want to talk to you about a key part of my music video process. Specifically, I want to tell you how my group and I planned out our vision for our music video. I first started thinking of a vision when researching other pop songs music videos. I was looking and I knew that I wanted to tell a story with my music video. I didn't really come up with much. Now, it led to me and my group member Mya discussing visions. Mya and I discussed it over text messaging. So, we were thinking and suddenly an idea popped in my head. I pitched the idea to my Mya. Once, I pitched it Mya was on bored and liked it as well. I thought of the idea to do a breakup theme music video. Since our song was called "Save Your Tears", we wanted to incorporate that into our video. So, we for sure wanted to do a teardrop scene in our video. Mya and I listen to this song all the time. When we listen to it, it gives love vibes. So once I took the love vibe and th

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today I will be discussing a minor setback my group had. We specifically had a setback when ti came to filming schedule. My group mate Mya couldn't film because of something important she had to do. What Mya had to do that was important was take an important test.  This test is called the Scholastic Assessment Test. It is more know by its acronym the SAT. This is a test for entry into colleges in the United States. So, being that Mya is a senior she had to take it to prepare for college. I was just thinking maybe we can film later that day. But, when I thought about this I didn't think about the length of the test. I also didn't think about if Mya would be up for it.hThe test lasts about 4-5 hours. Also, when Mya took the SAT, she was specifically assigned to a school to take it . This school Mya took it at was pretty far. It was specifically far from the filming location where we wanted to film. I don't have a car so Mya wou

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today, I want to tell you about some of the planning process that's been happening for my music video. So originally, my group member and I decided to do a song called "Starboy" by The Weeknd. But then we had a change of plans after some discussion. We decided to change it to a song that is more known and more popular. We knew we still wanted to do a song by The Weeknd but just pick a more popular one. So, we started to text about it and it took us about 15 minutes to finalize the song. After talking it over, my group mate was the one who originally came up with the idea. I decided to let my group mate be the more main decision maker since I was the main person who decided Starboy. When I asked my group mate to decide, she ended up picking the song "Save Your Tears: Remix" by The Weeknd and Ariana Grande. I thought this song was such a good pick for our music video. I thought this was a good pick as well because it was
