Title Research: The Nightmare on Elm Street

Hey guys , welcome back to my blog! Today, I will be researching the different titles of movies and the titles I will be looking at today come from the movie "The Nightmare on Elm Street" which I got from the "Art of the Title" website you read about earlier. I will not answer the questions about the opening sequence below.

 1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

During the opening sequence titles displayed are the production companies first, then the title of the movie, next the actors and actresses, then the director of photography, next the production designer, then the special effects, then the editor of the film, then the music maker, then the executive producers, then finally the director who also happen to write the movie

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequences?

During the opening sequence, we don't get images we rather get a video. In this video it starts with someone making razors for fingernails and making them extremely long, then a girl appears in what happens to look like a factory. Next, the guy sees her and she runs away and we see that for a while. Finally once she stops running, the guy gets her with his razor like fingernails then she wakes up.

3. What connotations do these images carry?

The opening sequence video(images) definitely carry that suspenseful and scared connotation. When it starts you see a man making fingernails out of long pieces of metal. This gives us that scary vibe because it already establishes a villan. Then the girl looks extremely frightened and he captures her giving us that scary vibe once again but then she wakes up from a dream which brings the suspense down for now.

4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

The opening sequence establishes a feeling of the horror genre due ti many factors. First, it has very dark lighting which is very common for the horror genre as it gives off spooky. Next while all this is happening that spooky music is being played on top of it.

5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

I think strategies used to ensure the film appeal to its target audience definitely are used. For sure the suspenseful vibe because viewers would think the girl is safe when she stops running. But, then the guy captures her. Finally in horror movies it has a very up and down suspense and ending with it being a dream appeals a lot to horror lovers.

6. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions, and editing techniques.

Technology was used effectively through the camera angles. We get tracking shots of the girl running through the place and we get close ups of the girls face where we can see she looks extremely terrified and petrified. Also, the camera angles never show the front top of the body of the villain which is purposeful for sure. Also, the transition from scene to scene is very simple and so is the tile which I think is purposeful hoping for a focus on the opening video.

Thanks for reading my blog , be back to see the next horror movie I pick and research their title use in their opening sequence!

Production Blog: Editing Blog

Hey guys and welcome back to my blog. In my last blog you heard how we finally filmed! Not everything went as we planned but we had to make do. Today I am going to be telling you about the editing process of our film. I actually edited the film on my phone for the most part. The editing process took a very long time, longer than I expected. If I had to give a number, I would say this process took a total of 2-3 hours. But, we knew we had to make up for our filming aspect so I did what I had to do. We edited our short film on this app called CapCut. CapCut is a very popular editing app which I have used in the past. What I mean by this is I love how you don't have to be the most experienced at editing and your edits can still come out great. When editing, the first thing I did was gather the clips. Once I did this, I started to think about all the titles needed. When editing this, I took inspiration from a previous movie I researched. What I did intentionally, I made sure the effec...

Genre Research: Comedy

Hey guys and welcome back to my blog. Today, I'll continue covering and researching genres with today's genre being comedy.  There are usually very common angles that go across all realms of comedy film. One is the close up, which a lot of directors use to comedic effect. Another is the establishing shot, which is often used to r begin segments. The establishing shots used are also to bring the actors to a new scene with a comedic interaction. Another common one is the POV shot, which is often used during or after the comedic event.  Next, the lights. It depends, but often times are scenes usually light and vibrant to emphasize the comedy, unless otherwise obvious. Acting is vey vibrant, and over the top because a lot of the comedic effect is combined with the actors and the camera to really bring it all to life. Movement is where comedy movies can really shine. For example, if a pole hits a camera and makes it shake to imitate the movement. Props are also really importa...
